Web accessibility podGuide
The web accessibility podGuide is an iPod-ready version of the current web-related accessibility standards, including:
- Authoring Tools Accessibility Guidelines (ATAG 1.0)
- User Agent Accessibility Guidelines (UAAG 1.0)
- Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 1.0)
- Section 508 standards for web, software, multimedia and related accessibility.
Download and installation
- Download the web accessibility podGuide (80kb zip).
- Unzip the downloaded file (e.g. using WinZip on PC or Stuffit Expander on Mac).
You should end up with a folder called "Web Accessibility" and four sub-folders plus a bunch of files and sub-folders within those. - Mount your iPod as an external drive (see your iPod documentation for help).
- Go to the Notes folder on your iPod. (See My Computer on PC, or the Finder sidebar on Mac).
- Drag the unzipped guide into your Notes folder.
- Unmount your iPod.
Using the web accessibility podGuide
- Choose "Extras" from your iPod's main menu.
- Choose "Notes" from the next menu.
You will then see this message: "Notes loading". - Choose "Web Accessibility" and navigate through the files as required.
Note: it is not unusual for a short delay to occur between pressing the select button and the selected file displaying.
Compatibility
The web accessibility podGuide was created on WinXP and tested on a 4th generation iPod, but should work with any iPod with a Notes capacity (3rd and 4th generation iPods). Please contact us if you have any problems or find any errors.
